CT Scan - Computerized Tomography Scan
Computerized tomography scan, short form of CT scan, is a diagnostic imaging procedure done using a series of X-rays and computer technology to generate images of the internal organs of the body. A CT scan report shows detailed images of any part of the body, including the muscles, tissues, fat, organs, blood vessels, or bones. CT scans are more detailed than standard X-rays. A standard X-ray captures images of a single organ, area of the body at a time and is used to detect only superfluous injuries or issues. It cannot provide in-depth information about the internal organs.
In a CT scan, the beam of light moves in 360 degrees, thereby capturing different views of the same organ or structure, providing greater detail. These images are further processed to create cross-sectional images of the bones, soft tissues and blood vessels inside the body, which are displayed in 2D or 3D forms on a monitor.
It is a non-invasive way of obtaining detailed internal images of the body. A CT scan is usually recommended to examine people who may have internal injuries from accidents, assaults or other types of trauma. These scans visualize in detail all the parts of the body and are used for diagnosing injury or disease in the internal organs. Using these reports, doctors can plan surgical, medical or radiation treatments for the patients.
